My wife finally received her appointment for a ESA Assessment and now today I have received a work focussed interview appointment letter at the JCP for about 10 days time.

My situation is that I am a full time student currently but as of September I am taking a year out from my degree due to my caring responsibilities for my wife (she has complex PTSD and severe depression). We have two children aged 10 and 17 but about 9 weeks ago our two nieces aged 7 and 2 were placed with us as my sister in law is a heroin addict and awaiting residential rehab.

I am not claiming JSA currently but we do receive tax credits and housing benefit as prior to my wife claiming ESA last September she was also a full time student.

I am just wondering whether the DWP will force me to look for a job? My wife literally could not be left with the 2 year whilst the other 3 are at school, she just cannot cope. I have to be here, plus I am the only one that can drive, we live in a village and I have three different school runs to do each day as the children are all at different schools. She is planning to apply for PIP and carers allowance for me too but we haven't got around to it yet.

Welcome to the forum.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I assume that this is a joint claim for ESA, this being the case partners are regularly asked to attend WFIs as part of their entitlement to claim, so you must attend or your partners benefits may be sanctioned.

The interview itself is to simply ascertain if there is any assistance that the JC+ can provide in helping you to work, they won't know that you are currently a full time student. They can only offer advice and assistance, you cannot be required to work or to carry out any activity.
