Esa premium was created by Susan Smith
Hi, its just a quick question that I hope you can help me with please,
I am claiming contribution based Esa in the support group and also DLA, but my DLA was changed in March last year from lowest of both categories to the highest rate of care component and lowest mobility, but someone has said that I could have
been claiming extra money for SDA, for being having the highest component of care, but I dont think this will be correct, please could you help to clear this up, as I think its only IR that would count.

Thank you for any help.

Hi SS,

I gather that you are referring to The SDP (Severe Disability Premium) rather than "SDA".

Being in receipt of DLA MR or HR Care or a PIP Daily Living Award is one of the qualifying criteria for entitlement to The SDP.

Have a look at : This Post, from earlier on today.

Please reply to this topic if you have any further queries.

Ho bro, yes im sorry I was referring to SDP, thank you I have had a look at the link that you referred me to but im sorry I still dont know where I stand.
My Husband has finished work to look after me and he claims carers allowance, but like I say i am on contibution based ESA, and not IR, and that is why I am thinking I wouldnt ne eligible to claim SDP like i was informed.
Sorrt to sound thick.
thank you

Hi SS,

Besides being in receipt of MR or HR Care of DLA, to be entitled to payment of The SDP on top of your ESA, you must also :

Live alone (there are exceptions to this rule)

The exceptions are if the person living with you is also in receipt of MR or HR Care DLA or Daily Living PIP

No one else must be getting Carer's Allowance for looking after you.

If your hubby or anyone else is already receiving Carers Allowance for providing care for you, that would also preclude you from receiving The SDP

Plus, you must have entitlement to payment of IR ESA.

On the face of what you have written it would appear that you do not have entitlement to payment of The SDP.

However, I do not know your full personal/financial circumstances, and never could on a forum.

It is possible to be paid IR ESA on top of your CB ESA, so if you think that you may have entitlement to IR ESA, you should request an ESA 3 Form from The DWP ESA.

THE ESA PHONE NUMBER DWP : 0345 608 8545 Press Option 3 for ESA.

As your husband gave up work to care for you, there may be different options to the way that you are currently claiming your benefits.

You should contact The CAB or another Welfare Rights/Advice Agency and request a Benefits Check.

If you are over 50 years old, Age UK can help with this.

As a rough guide you could try these two : Benefits Calculators.

Susan

Just to add the advice already given, both your being in the ESA Support Group and your receiving an Enhanced Daily Living award of PIP entitle you to payment of the Enhanced Disability Premium is addition to any eligibility for the SD Premium.

For ESA, EDP is also know as the Disability Income Guarantee.

Hi, in response to bro's last reply to my question yesterday, I get DLA at the high rate care and standard mobility, but do not get EDP as i think he mentioned, and not sure if he means that I perhaps should be able to claim it as I am in support group also for ESA, its so confusing, but thank you for your patience.
