Having to re-apply for ESA for my daughter. She's at present in the support group, as she's on the autism spectrum, has a speech and language disorder and mild learning difficulties.

Do they usually ask people to attend medicals if they are re-applying or take them out of the support group if they are already in it? We requested a home visit for a medical last time due to my daughter's anxiety levels and her difficulty understanding and answering questions. They ignored this request and she would have had to go to an assessment centre if our MP hadn't intervened and complained on her behalf (at which point they put her straight into the support group for 2 years without a medical )

I'm dreading going through this process again. My daughter's condition is not going to miraculously improve. Has anyone been through a similar situation-are they likely to make my daughter attend a medical when we are re-applying?

Claimants will be re-assessed primarily on their latest ESA50 and any information supplied with it, there is no reason to assume that they will remove your daughter from the SG, although I not suggesting that it cannot happen.

There is now a new Assessment Provider, Maximus, who have just replaced ATOS this moth, at this point in time we have no feeling on how they will handle requirements for a home assessment., although I still expect there to be a requirement for the claimants GP to provide support for this requirement in writing.

It's not entirely clear when you last completed an ESA50, there were changes to the ESA Regulations and Descriptors in January 2013 and there have been several changes to the DWP guidance for assessors, so please make sure you are using our latest ESA Claim guides.
