IB migration to ESA Appeal in 4 weeks was created by Pippin
Hi,,
I have my appeal for esa I want support group they say no points on any category, for many years have had 15 points so am appealing, wish I had seen your site months ago.
Anyway despite my best efforts I cannot get any current medical support letters, my GP has done one but its sadly not good and neither is he but I cannot change at the moment.
I have ME, arthititis etc.
I have been assessed as needing counselling for stress not unsurprisingly but that was in January and will have a wait, I'm doing an online CBT course.
I have done a list of the discriptors etc that I am disputing and some of the comments made by the very unfair assessment I had, it was a nurse and she twisted many of my answers.
I will have my sister and sister in law with me at the assessment, sadly had no one with me at the assessment - my mistake.
I am working through the download stuff which is brilliant to send off another plea along with the details of counselling etc just to restate my case.
I have a meeting with the CAB who have been good week before but am still worried about the lack of good medical support.
Has anybody been through this with so little current medical evidence?
Moral of the story is for goodness sake don't get ME.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I also have ME so I can appreciate the problem you are having with getting relevant evidence.
One option you can look at if you have been referred on by your GP is to have a look at your medical records at your GP Surgery. Most consultants will write to the patients GP after they see them with details of the appointment. See
Requesting your medical records
Charging for medical records
We do have members who have been placed in the Support Group as a result of their ME so it is possible to get an award.
You mention that you also have arthritis it might be worth your seeing if you can attribute your problems to one or other of your conditions, I am sure that in a lot of cases it will be difficult to distinguish, but where you can it might help, for example you might have problems with walking (see below), due to fatigue caused by your ME and significant discomfort from your Arthritis.
If you do expect to score points for the Mobilising test, remember that the panel can also look at your ability to propel a manual wheelchair so you need to counter this as well.
Also, activities must be done safely and repeatedly for you to be counted as being able to do them.

Hi Gordon,
When I posted my question it didn't appear so assumed it had all gone pear shaped...normal for me, thanks for that info.
I have just done the esa assessment here and seems to that I would qualify for both groups, I would want the support group as am experiencing real problems, just have to convince the panel that I do, no mean feat. Although my sister and sister in law will be with me to give some evidence.
I so wish I had known about this site when I completed my form some 15 months ago, it's been going on forever.
Am now in the process of trying to anticipate what sort of questions they will ask me on.
The 51 pages of paperwork is just so confusing and packed with completely wrong statements.
Sometimes I think I would be better off starting again with the new form as it's much better laid out etc and not so confusing as the ESA50 I filled out.
I did look through my notes at the surgery and got some relevant stuff but they said it was out of date and not current, what the heck do they expect nobody will take any notice if you have ME will they. grrr
I have spondylitis in my neck and its affecting my arms now so have an appointment coming from the Rheumatologist but it's taken 3 months so far!
Also have counselling arranged as the stress from all this has really knocked me back as you can imagine, but again no date yet.
The wheelchair thing, the assessor said that I have the strength and ability to be able to do so, the family and myself really laughed at that, it's just not possible.
I have about 5 disagreements on the points and will concentrate on them.
Just awaiting for a call from CAB they have cancelled the appointment for the week before, due to unforseen circumstances, doesn't help ones stress levels..
So, thank you again Gordon, much appreciated.
