Council Tax was created by Seth Laa
FOR INFO ONLY
Hello all, I was looking at info on my local Councils website and noticed details regarding disabled persons.
There was info on there with regards to receiving a reduction if you were in receipt of HRM DLA. The website stated that you could get a discount if you have had a room in your home adapted to aid your disability but excluded kitchens and bathrooms
, (these, to me, seem the most obvious).
However it was only after I had made enquiries that I realised that after having my bathroom reconfigured that I wasn't able to apply.
An officer from the Council visited my home and after taking photo's and confirming that I had only got a downstairs bathroom replied approx 10 days later and confirmed a Tax Band reduction in my tax, they even backdated it to when my b-room was decorated 30 months ago.
Please note that I am married with a family and in full time employment.
There is nothing wrong with asking, you have nothing to lose.
P.S, I am in a SL postcode

Hi To All and, like many members, will be hearing more from me over the coming months regarding preparing for the oncoming October onslaught for those on indefinite DLA expecting 're-assessment'!
However, regarding this post. This would seem to suggest that those receiving HRM DLA, even with a single bathroom in household, as long as bathroom has been adapted for the disabled persons use (as well as other members of household using as it is the only bathroom), may I suggest a 'disabled, walk in shower', with rails, seat/stool, would be eligible for CT discount/further additional discount.
Or, have I grabbed wrong end of stick?
I ask, for the reason that, along with many others, my partner (who is my carer) and I fall into the group of people who never used to have to pay CT, but since each LA responsible, we now pay a proportion, which is nevertheless better in our pockets than LA's.
Any clarification more than welcomed.

As you point out in your post, Council Tax is administered by each Local Authority uniquely as a consequence we do not provide advice on this benefit in the forum.,
I am sure that each LA's website either has the information you need or contact information for those who can provide it.
As to PIP, there really is no point seeking detailed information on the transfer until after the election, as everything could change depending on who is elected.

Apologies, what I should have stated was that as I could not climb in/out of bath then it was removed completely and a walk in shower complete with stool and grab rails installed in its place
