PIP Home Assessment

13 months (!) later, I have my PIP assessment which as a pleasant surprise has been set to be a home visit.
The date chosen happens to be a day that my Mother, who is also my carer, is at work. Should I reschedule it to another date or go ahead without her being present?
Knowing how narrow mindedly ignorant many of the Health "Professionals! have been in the past, I am debating whether the absence of her would have me deemed able to look after myself. On the other hand, her being there might make it go the other way and be judged not needing any help.
Any advice on what to expect different from a normal assessment?
Thanks in advance,
Hiijinx

Hi H,
Welcome to Benefits and Work

You are allowed to rearrange a PIP Assessment once.
However, you should be aware that due to the huge backlogs, it could be some time before a new appointment can be made.
Dependent on who your PIP Assessment provider is Capita (Who do tend to provide Home Assessments) or ATOS (Who are far more reluctant to provide Home Assessments) you can contact them as below :
Contact Capita : Contact Capita.
Or
ATOS PIP Contact details to the right of : This Page.
I would keep the correspondence to e-mail as you then have a written paper trail.
Feedback regarding Capita Assessors, has been pretty positive with regards to their professionalism and politeness.
Capita's main problem seems to be cancelling the assessment last minute, or not turning up.
Not a lot of feedback regarding ATOS PIP Assessors.
If you read from Page 64 onwards of our : PIP Claims Guide, (2nd Link on page) it gives you some idea of what to expect.
You can also read through the latest version of The PIP Assessment Guide : Here.
Good luck, and please keep us all updated.
