PIP and change of circumstances was created by princess tamina
I currently receive both PIP components at the standard rate. I am due to go into hospital for a major operation on my foot at the end of January (problems with this foot are one of the reasons why I get the mobility component) and will be in plaster and unable to do any weight-bearing on my foot for at least 8 weeks, with recovery estimated at 9-12 months. Apart from problems with walking, This will have an impact on some of the daily living activities. At what point should I inform the DWP of a change of circumstances? Will I have to go through a full reassessment or will they accept medical evidence?

First of all, any time you spend as an in-patient must be reported to the DWP, if your stay exceeds 28 days then your PIP will be suspended until you leave hospital.

If there is expected to be an improvement in your condition as a result of the operation then you should contact the DWP within 30 days of the it happening or as soon after as your circumstances allow. You should make it clear that the change has only just occurred, the improvement would need to last for three months before they consider as a relevant Change of Circumstances.

If your condition deteriorates (even temporarily) then you must have suffered the extra problems for three months and reasonably expect them to last another nine, before you need to report it to the DWP, also, you need to consider whether you would then meet the Enhanced level of Mobility as a result, assuming that you now get the Standard rate.
