ESA WRAG to Credits Only was created by del
Notified DWP in writing of change to finances knowing would no longer be entitled to ESA IR also asked for confirmation of ESA Credits Only and claim remains open and not closed. (I have sufficient NI contributions to be eligible for support group if found eligible at future assessments.)
First reply received from DWP general standard letter re no longer eligible for ESA payments, gives list of various generalised reasons, mentions asking for reconsideration but makes no reference to my personal situation. Wrote again, exact same reply received albeit different date. Contacted call centre staff was told will not receive confirmation letter re ESA Credits Only or that claim remains open and if claim has been cancelled will receive P45. Find it rather worrying DWP do not issue written confirmation of change to ESA. Any advice regarding this would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm afraid that there is not much I can suggest other than your writing to the DWP again, I suspect contacting the Call Centre is unlikely to produce anything of use.

I am afraid even the guys on RightsNet have not been able to figure out how the DWP "pay" NI Credits as it is not done by their computer system. Your ESA claim will technically remain open, but as you are no longer receiving payments I would expect them to delete your computer record from the system, once this happens you will probably be unable to contact the DWP by phone as the call centre will have no record of who you are

Whatever happens you will not receive a P45 as this is a Tax Statement and Income Related ESA is not liable to tax.

Looking back on your posts it looks like you will not be able to claim Contribution Based ESA, either for the WRAG or the Support Group, as any original ESA(CB) payment was not time limited, this being the case your only option is to re-establish your NI Contribution history by working.

Thanks Gordon. Oh I thought from previous posts having been on IB then transferred to WRAG and received maximum 365 days contribution payments thereafter became eligible for ESA IR and that if I remained on ESA by keeping claim open (NI credits only) and health deteriorated I could possibly be eligible for Support Group. Have I got that wrong?

Seems I did not go back far enough :)

If your original ESA(CB) payments were stopped due to the time limit (and no other reason) and you continue to maintain your current LCW status, then should you at a later date meet the criteria for the Support Group then you ESA(CB) will be re-instated, assuming that this is payable after your Occupational Pensions are appropriately deducted.
