Contribution ESA and ill health pension deductions was created by hellyn
I have received a letter from DWP stating I am being deducted 15.55 a week from my Support group ESA due to my £53 a week ill health pension. (£212 a month)
I thought it was £85 a week before it came in to play. It leaves me £62.20 short a month now.
As I was under that amount it never crossed my mind that i had to mention it as it is such a pittance.
Can some one clarify this for my poor fibro brain...
thank you.

Hi H,
Welcome to Benefits and Work
As you rightly state, there is an £85/Week disregard for Occupational Pension (OP) payments with Contribution Based (CB) ESA before any deductions are made from your CB ESA.
However, for Income Related (IR) ESA any income such as an OP, no matter how much it may be, is deducted £ for £ from any IR ESA payments that you may be entitled to.
It looks very much like you were receiving CB ESA in The Support Group (SG) =
£72.40 Personal Allowance
+
£35.75 Support Group Component
= £108.15/Week. (ESA is paid fortnightly in arrears)
+
£15.55/Week EDP (IR ESA Disability Income Guarantee)
Total = £123.70/Week.
As you had not informed The DWP of your OP income of £53/Week, you were financially assessed as also being entitled to payment of an IR ESA top-up. (EDP)
This would have been The Enhanced Disability Premium (EDP) which amounts to £15.55/Week, and may be payable to ESA SG recipients on top of any CB ESA, (As Above) see :
ESA Premiums
Now that the DWP are aware that you have an income of £53/Week from a pension, you no longer pass the means test for IR ESA top-ups.
Therefore, you are not entitled to the EDP of £15.55/Week.
The DWP may claw back any over payments of the The EDP that you have received but were not entitled to due to receipt of the £53/Week OP.
Hope this explains it.
