PIP and ESA was created by Valerie Bryant
I'm bipolar and received my PIP claim form last week which is to be back to them by 27th December,I currently receive DLA, so it's likely my assessment will be in January which is also when my ESA claim runs out (Support Group), my question is will I have to have another assessment for ESA even if it is one month after my PIP Assessment? I seen my CPN yesterday and he is supporting me fully but I also wondered what evidence he could give which would be helpful to me.

Thanks in advance.

I think you are being overly optimistic about your PIP Assessment being in January, whilst it is not impossible that it will, it is far more likely that it will take 3-4 months for you to be seen and it could be even longer.

If you are expecting to be re-assessed for ESA in January and you have not already received an ESA50 then it is probable that your re-assessment has been deferred, you would need to check with the DWP for a new date, it could be a couple of months or it could be as long as two years before you are assessed again. Your ESA remains in payment at the current rates until a new Decision is made.

The DWP have started using PIP assessment reports for ESA and vice versa, but there is limited crossover between the criteria for the two benefits, so there is no guarantee that having an assessment for one will remove the need for you to have one for the other.

Your CPN needs to provide evidence that relates to the relevant Descriptors for PIP and ESA, identify those that you think are relevant to your limitations and ask them to comment about how you meet those Descriptors and why, if your conditions have any variability then ask them to comment on this as well.

Thanks for your advice, I'm probably worrying myself unnecessarily about having both assessments so soon together

Thank you for your prompt reply, my DLA finishes in March and my 18 months on ESA Support Group runs out in February, so I shall just wait to hear. I have Citizens Advice visiting me at home to fill out the PIP claim form this week and its to be returned by December 27th, so hopefully I shall have a few weeks to gather all the evidence I can.

Thank you again.

A couple of points for you :)

Your DLA will be extended until a Decision on your PIP transfer is made.

You must have your PIP form returned to the DWP by the required date, which obviously covers the Christmas period, it is essential that you do this or you risk your PIP claim being refused and your DLA claim closed, so don't be tempted to wait for the evidence that you mention, it can always be sent after you have returned the forms.

Make sure you use a tracked service such as Recorded Delivery as you will have proof that the form was delivered.
