Gordon,

Can you advise. Capita have cancelled my assessment of 5 occasions now due to work load and delays, and all at short notice, like 20 minutes before the due appointment. The new date they have sent me is not suitable due to my CPN not being able to attend, he is away for the next month, Capita are telling me they will have to sign me off the books, and I will have to contact the DWP regardless of them cancelling previous appointments, it could result in me losing my DLA, I am shattered.

Hi P,

Capita cancelling PIP Consultations is not at all uncommon.

The claimant is allowed to rearrange once, and it is not your fault that Capita have cancelled the previous five.

You could complain to Capita :

In writing :

Capita PIP
PO Box 307
Darlington
DL98 1AB

By email : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Informing them that you are now involving your M.P. with a complaint regarding the very poor standard of treatment that you have received at the hands of Capita.

Contacting your MP

I would contact both parties ASAP, and request that you receive written confirmation of any rearranged appointment at a time when your CPN can be in attendance.

If Capita won't back down, and you don't take part in the assessment, you then face the dilemma of the possibility of your PIP Claim being disqualified, and the need to appeal any such decision to The DWP.

Thank you for your reply, was it ATOS that used to do the face-to-face-assessments? if so, is there a reason Capita have taken over?

Hi P,

ATOS used to carry out DLA Assessments.

They have also been carrying out ESA Assessments, but will not be doing this after March 2015, as Maximus are taking over.

Contracts for PIP Assessments were split geographically between ATOS and Capita, so it depends on which part of the country you live in :
