Holiday was created by Dougle
Hello group.Forgive me if this has been answered before.I have done a search but couldn't see it .
Anyway, I am in receipt of ESA in the Support Group. I wish to have a holiday abroad for one week. I will have my wife with me ( my carer) .I will not be handling luggage or anything of that sort.I will have assistance . I realise I must inform the DWP of my intention to leave the country temporarily.
* My question is ...will DWP make assumptions about my medical condition based on the fact that I go abroad for one week ?
I have literally been housebound for the last 3 years now. A holiday would be wonderful. It is not like I will be water skiing or swimming.
My G.P. has said he thinks i should go as it will make me feel better at least for a while.
I just do not want to jeapordise my claim.
Many thanks and Merry Christmas.

Hi D,

As you rightly state, you should inform the ESA Benefits Office of your intention to go on holiday.

You can receive ESA for up to 4 Weeks abroad :

www.gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroad/illness...-disability-benefits

You should be aware that the fact that you are traveling abroad may be taken into account at any future reassessment.

This will obviously include your mode of travel, and all the actions involved in traveling to and from your destination.

Problems could occur, if any of the above is in direct contradiction to the limitations that placed you into the SG.

It may be prudent to keep a record of all arrangements/adjustments that you will make to deal with any limitations.

Many ESA Claimants take a holiday, and inform The DWP, and there is no problem, it is something that you should take into account though.

I hope you enjoy the break as best you can !!! :)

Hi D,

It was not my intention to worry you or put you off your holiday !! :(

I am just making you aware of "possible" implications.

The ESA Regs state that your ability to carry out any of The Actions/Descriptors should be assessed on how you are for the majority of the time,(>50%) not how you are on a one off occasion, such as a short trip abroad.

Ah ok thanks Bro ! Well, I will not be handling luggage, will not stand in a queue at the airport as these days only one person in the party of travellers has to present passports etc at the desk.
( I could not stand in the queue anyway ) , extra leg room seats etc ..and will have transport into resort of course aided by my wife.Once in resort I intended to just sit around in the hotel and try to relax.
I just hope that would be acceptanle and within bounds of my claim.
My Doctor has given me extra super powerful pain killers for the trip to cope with the extra moving around .It is a short haul flight anyway .
I am fed up being under virtual house arrest is all.
Thanks for the advice . I realise this is not a place for discussion as such so I will leave it at that.
Have a great Christmas time.
