I am severeky disabled and currently in support group as I use a mobility scooter. However, the nearest atos/maximus centre is miles away, out of range of scooter. My GP is pretty good so Im hoping he'll furnish me with a letter saying I need a home medical. I wonder if any members have experience of having an ESA medical at home. I know theyre more common for dla, of which I currently claim hrm and mrc, but not so sure of the criteria re esa home medicals. I am unable to use a wheelchair for various reasons which the dwp seemed to accept at last review, though I do possess one but it is only of use to me if somebody pushes it.
Hi mv,
I obviously can't speak for other members, and they are still most welcome to offer their own input.
It is important that you discuss this with your G.P., and gain their support.
If the G.P. happens to receive an : ESA 113 Questionnaire, they are asked whether or not you can attend a F2F at Questions 6 / 7.
The question is quite ambiguous though, as it asks :
"Could your patient travel to an examination centre by public transport or taxi?"
As you will see, it does not ask for additional information unless the G.P. answers "No" @ 6.
It is most obvious, that traveling by public transport and Taxi door to door, are totally different, involving totally different demands on the claimant.
It is important that you make your "request" for a Home Assessment (if a F2F is deemed necessary) ASAP in the reassessment process.
This would be when you fill in your ESA50 @ Page 3 in the section regarding a F2F. (Add and draw reference to an extra A4 sheet if necessary)
You could even make a request formal under Sections 20/21 of the Equality Act 2010. (Reasonable Adjustments)
See : Guidance on matters to be taken into account in determining questions relating to the definition. EA2010.
See also : Section 20 EA2010 Duty to make adjustments. From :
EA2010 Legislation.
As appointments for F2F ESA Assessments are sometimes made by a different ATOS department, there may be a scenario where the appointment is made before the ESA50 has been read.
If this occurs, one should contact ATOS, and draw their attention to your request. They may then insist that your G.P. Faxes them in support of your request, even if the G.P. has previously provided a letter which was sent with the ESA50.
Of course, once Maximus take over, they may operate differently regarding Home Assessments.
We will have to wait and see.
