Have PIP will soon be claiming ESA

I've just finished the PIP application process which was started in May. I'm now in receipt of the standard daily living and mobility components of PIP.

I've been on SSP for the past 4 months and expect that I will soon be dismissed on medical grounds, as my conditions are chronic and unlikely to improve. I will therefore have to apply for ESA at that point.

Will having PIP make this any easier, or can I expect another 6 month wait, medical examinations and so forth before my ESA application is decided?

The criteria for ESA and PIP are quite different so you cannot assume that you will get one just because you have the other. I suggest you have a good look at our ESA guide before you do anything else. You can also start collecting your evidence.

There is no way of knowing whether you will be asked to attend a face2face assessment, you cannot be found 'fit for work' without one. There is a huge backlog of claims at the moment with some taking upwards of a year to be decided.During this time you would be paid the basic rate for 365 days (if on contributory benefit, which I would expect as you have been working). Backpay would go back to the 14th week of your claim if your application were eventually accepted.

During the assessment period, do you get receive the disability premiums as a PIP recipient on top of the basic rate, or is that also backdated?

be receiving the Care component of Disability Living Allowance (middle or higher rate) or Personal Independance Allowance Daily Living (either rate)
