Esa support and pip

Hi have been getting esa support and awaiting a decision on pip am I entitled to both how would it effect my housing benefit and how do I find out if my esa support group is income or contributity based

Hi Sg, ESA is an income replacement benefit whilst PIP attempts to offset some of the expenses incurred due to long-term health conditions/disabilities. It is perfectly possible to be on bot, indeed many people are.

If you were transferred from IB or were working for several years before you claimed ESA, it is highly likely that you will be on contributory benefit. If neither of these apply then it is likely that you are on income-related benefit. However, it is also possible to be on contributory ESA with an income-related top up, so it can get rather complicated! If you are on HB then it isvery possible that you will also get some element of IR ESA If your award letter does not make it clear then your best course would be to phone DWP and ask.

Being in the Support Group and in receipt of IR benefit would have a favourable effect on your HB I believe.
