Hi all,
I have been on high rate car and mobility the last 2 years, my dla was up for renewal so they sent me the PIP forms. I filled them in just after I had my spinal surgery and a sacroiliac joint fusion and as you can probably guess I wasn't in a good place due to my pain. In a panic I filled the forms in when I was alone as I had forgotten about them as all focus was on my op. when I remembered about my forms it wAs close to the deadline date and didn't want my money to be stopped so I filled them in and sent them off. I had no face to face assessment and my award has come back and I'm devastated as I have only been awarded low mobility and nothing else. Going through my award I have totally miss understood the mental health question and ticked no to mental health as I didn't realise my panic attacks, stress ,anxietydepression, confusion And my extreme fatigue came under mental health so it's partly my fault that my award is wrong.
I am still in horrific pain on loads of meds, I am upset as I have made such a mistake. I'm really worried as without my care and my enhanced mobility I'm going to be housebound. I use crutches but the majority of the time in use a wheelchair as I can't walk no distance because of my pain. I'm pushed in a wheelchair as my condition is such that I am unable to physically push myself because of my chronic pain. As it is now I stand to loose a carer, my blue bage and everything. I have put in for a mandatory reconsideration following the guides on here so I just hope my original decision will be overturned. I feel if I had have had a face to face assesment then this wouldn't have been a problem as my mum or husband would have been with me and would have picked up on the mental health question. I put about my condition on the form I just ticked no to mental health. I think that the HP would have realised the severity of my disability and my poor mobility.
Up until 3 years ago I had a high profile job in retail, filling in paperwork was always my strength, it totally devastates me how much my life has changed in such a short space of time. I think a lot of my confusion and lack of concentration is a side effect of my meds. I'm waiting now on this reconsideration. My esa has been overturned and I have been placed in the support group on the strength of a letter from gp and consultant stating I'm dependant on someone pushing me in my wheelchair as I physically can't push myself. It's a waiting game for my pip now.

Sorry to hear this.

Unlike ESA, PIP only tests your ability to walk, so whilst the letters from your GP will still be of use, you will need to show why you cannot reliably walk more than 20m to be awarded the top rate for Mobilty, the key word here is "reliably" which is covered in our PIP Caim guide. Depending on how your mental health problems affect you it may also be possible for you to score points for Going Out, these also count towards the Mobility score.

Standard rate PIP is equivalent to DLA Medium Rate care, you need 12 points for the Enhanced rate, so you should have a look at what you scored in order to determine what you need.
