Carers allowance was created by welshgrl
Hi,
my uncle is 66 and until recently his wife was his carer and got paid the weekly rate for it. She has since left him and is no longer his carer. Is he now entitled to get the money paid to himself in an alternative form? Like a premium or something?

Thanks

It sounds like he may qualify for the Severe Disability Premium, there are two requirement for this;

- he must be receiving DLA Care at the Medium or Higher rate, PIP Daily Living or Attendance Allowance.
- he must be living alone (there are exceptions to this rule)
- no one must be receiving Carers Allowance for him

and

- he must be receiving an Income Related benefit such Pension Credit to enable payment.

If he is eligible for the SDP but not entitled to payment then he should see whether he is eligible for PC
