PIP Back Dating Query

sorry to trouble you, but you've been so good and I just wondered if I could you a question please.
I was on DLA which was to end april 14 I had already filled out the PIP application Jan 14, but april came and went and they had not sorted my PIP so they extended my DLA until the PIP app was sorted.
however in the PIP application in Jan 14 my circumstances had changed as I needed extra care ( daily living component) so this was added into the application, this was something I never got with the DLA as when I applied for it I didn't need the extra care at that point but have done since the PIP application.
I have now received the PIP and have been awarded the daily living component and the and mobility component but what they have said is my DLA now runs out October and then the PIP starts, but they have not back dated to the application date in Jan 14 as I presumed its because the just extended my DLA. but its not my fault they took so long to process my application.
So my question is should they have back dated the daily living component back to Jan 14 where it was added to the application and where it was a change in my circumstances or can they do what they have done and just give me the daily living component from when the pip starts next month.
thanks ill be very grateful any help you can give me xxxxx

Hi l,
I am afraid this is where DLA to PIP transfers lose out !!

If your care needs or mobility limitations have increased, and as a result of this you receive a "higher" PIP award than that of the DLA award that you were previously in receipt of, the higher PIP award monies are only payable from the start date of the PIP award.
They are not backdated as they would be with a fresh PIP claim.
Your DLA payments should continue for 4 weeks after the date of The PIP decision, then your PIP payments should start from the next day after the DLA payments end.

I forgot to congratulate you on The PIP award !!!

As you are now in receipt of The Daily Living Component of PIP, you may also be entitled to The Severe Disability Premium (SDP) as a top up, if you are also receiving a qualifying benefit, and are entitled to Income Related top-ups.
For ESA, see :
ESA Premiums
There should be information included with The PIP Decision Notice letter regarding your potential entitlement to The SDP.
Current PIP rates can be found from the link below :
