pip phone call

i was not awarded pip (4 points daily living and 4 points mobility)
the points allocation and decision makers reasoning are shambolic
the letter states that the decision maker will be contacting me to discuss why they came to this conclusion
my question is this
is it possible to convince them to reconsider during this phone call? (eg ask them to obtain medical evidence from gp ect")
i realise the next step is to ask for a mandatory reconsideration but the same thing happened with my esa claim
last year the decision maker (esa) phoned me to say i had scored no points, but then practically coached me on what to say then immediately overturned the decision and awarded me esa.
any help is appreciated
thanks

Hi noy,
Sorry to hear of your failed PIP Application.
It is quite common for PIP DM's to contact claimants under this scenario.
I am aware of some claimants who have been able to change the DM's mind in this situation.
You could request that they contact your G.P., but they are not obliged to do so.
See : www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?view=top...5481&start=30#102599
This is why we advise that members should provide any letters of support from a G.P. or other treating HCP with the PIP 2 Form.
As it seems that you are some distance away from being awarded the requisite 8 Points for Standard Daily Living/Mobility, and/or The 12 Points needed for Enhanced Rate of either/both, you should review your application in anticipation of the call and see if you can highlight any weak points in your application.
You need to make it as clear as possible to The DM regarding the limitations that you suffer, and what you cannot do as a result of said limitations. Remember, even if you can do them, you must be able to do so Repeatedly, Reliably and Safely, otherwise it should not be deemed that you can do them at all.
The easier that you make it for The DM to understand, the more chance that you have of success.
Have a look at the most current Guidance given to PIP Assessors :
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?view=top...5481&start=54#121606
You could also review our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page)
Try going through our : PIP Self Test , and score yourself very strictly, to see the result.
If The DM makes it clear on the phone that they are not going to change the adverse decision, you can request an MR there and then, and back it up in writing within one month of the date of The PIP Decision Notice Letter.
There is a PIP MR/Appeal Guide on this page ;

You could covertly record the telephone conversation if you have the facility to do so, for your future reference.
Best of luck, and please return to let us know the outcome.
