A Mess of a DWP PIP Decision Letter was created by Augustus
Have just received a DWP decision letter as follows:
I do not qualify for PIP daily living component despite DWP letter stating I scored 20 points!!!
When I called they didn't seem too motivated to do much - alomst water off a duck's back.
Has anyone else had such a disgraceful communication?
For the mobility element, they were equally confusing:
award to Aug 2017 but
will hear from them after Aug 2016 "to see if i am getting right amount". This sounds like a euphimism for an ATOS re-assessment.
Then 14 weeks before Aug 2017, I will need to decide whether to re-apply for PIP.
Can you make sense of these dates because I can't. The ATOS medical report gave the award for 2 years, so the Aug 2017 date mentioned is very confusing.
Can anyone make sense of this please?
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Augustus, it sounds as if DWP are sticking to their usual confusing communications!
We had postulated that the 1yr date was taking into account the fact that claims are currently taking around 12 months, hence they were asking people to renew in good time. However, that would seem to be disproved by them telling you to reapply 14 weeks before your current award is due to end - so I'm afraid I am stumped!

The early renewal is by design and is not a result of the current delays.
At the moment, it is too early for us to be able to say how this will play out, all PIP awards of two years or longer up to ten years (I think) will have a full re-assessment (we don't know if this means a face to face as well), one year before the end of the award, one of our members is already going through this process on the their two year award.
What is not clear is what will result from this re-assessment, a new award for X years or the existing award continues (assuming the claimant passes) and renews as normal, meaning that the claimant will actually be re-assessed twice during the last year.
I am afraid you will have to keep an eye on the forum to see how this unfolds, another bizarre policy from the DWP.

I would wait to see what they do about the award.

Thanks for explaining that Gordon - given the current backlogs, I can just see that working well!
