Non dependent and housing benefit was created by rosiegirl
Hi myself and partner receive housing benefit as my husband is disabled and recieving disability living allowance medium rate for care and mobility. My question is my son is home from university and has a summer job I know he is now classed as a non dependant how will this effect my housing benefit do I have to now pay all my rent or a percentage of it. We don't pay the bedroom tax as he is in halls at his university. I have tried researching this myself but it has left me confused. I got in touch with the housing and they just said about the bedroom tax but they don't as yet no about my son working. As always I don't like getting in touch with the job centre asking questions as I feel once you get in touch they don't leave you alone with forms and visits etc. Any advice would be most welcome, I am not wanting to avoid paying anything I have to I just want a heads up as to how much it's likely to be.

I am afraid that we do not deal with Housing Benefit on the forum, however, I have done a quick search and it seems likely that their will be a deduction that will be dependant on your son's income. however, the rates appear to vary from one Local Authority to another.

From what I can see most LA's appear to have a page on their website that explains their policy so I would have a look at your LA's to see what it says, failing that you will need to get local face to face advice, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.
