My First claim for DLA - which guides to use?

Hi

I live in an area where PIP has not yet been introduced and so I am going to make a claim for DLA for the first time, but I am not sure which of the guides that I should use to help me complete my form.

The form that I have been sent to complete is called “DLA1 Adult December 2013”. When I looked in the DLA section on your website I found the following guides:

“DLA Renewal Claims for Adults June 2013”

and then in the “DLA Archive Material” section “DLA Claims and Renewals prior to 10 June 2013” I found the following guides:

“DLA Claims for Adults November 2011”

I am just feeling anxious and confused about which of the guides I should use because this is my First Claim for DLA, so because it is not a Renewal, does this mean that I should use the older archived guides dated November 2011 or should I use the guides dated June 2013 because they are the most recent, even though they say they are for “renewal claims”.

Many thanks, in advance, for your help.

Unless you are in Northern Ireland, where I believe PIP is not in operation for any claimant, then you cannot make a new claim for DLA at all, only PIP. The postcode restriction only applies to "transfers" not new claims.

If you are in NI then it is the 2013 guide that should be used, if not then our PIP Claim guide is on the following link

Hi Gordon

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I am in Northern Ireland and PIP has not started here yet so it is still DLA that I need to make a claim for.

Kind regards
Bluebelle
