ESA severe disability premium was created by Hecticheron
I've just been awarded PIP, enhanced rate care.
I'm also on the income related level of ESA.

I've been sent a form to fill out for the severe disability premium of ESA.

My 18 year old son lives with me, but earns a very low wage.
I know if it was income support, there are disregards for the non - dependent if they are students or low earners. Does the same apply for ESA?

I don't see how being a parent to my 18 year old changes my disability. He's certainly not my carer.

Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

It is worth you getting a second opinion, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county, but I think it likely that your son will be classed as a non-dependant adult living with you, as he is no longer in education and that will preclude you from receiving the Severe Disability Premium.

The requirements for SDP are;

- you receive DLA Medium or Higher rate Care, PIP Daily Living or AA
- you live alone
- no one is receiving Carers Allowance for you
