PIP help. was created by Angie Martin
Hi I'm very new to this and wanted to know what my best advise is. I've always worked but over the last two years my health has detoriated. I have asthma and breathing problems. My doctor has advised me to retire on ill health as I'm finding everything very difficult. My husband helps me to get in the shower in the morning and I'm using my neubliser nearly every day. I've been taking steriods for over a year now and when I reduce them I need up very ill.I was admitted to hospital last week where my blow was 169. They kept me on oxgyen and other injections to open my airways.
Anyhow the reason I'm asking for help is because i don't know if anyone has ever tried to claim PIP with an asthma disease. Any help would be grateful. I'm down to working 3 days a week but even that is difficult. I want to be able to enjoy my grandchildren without having to rest all the time because I can't breath.

Hi and welcome to the forum. On the assumption that you are also new to the site, the following FAQ should help you find your way around.

PIP is awarded due to care and/or mobility needs rather than a specific diagnosis. It is certainly reasonable that someone with severe asthma would qualify for this benefit. Have a good look at our PIP guides.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm still working but will have to stop so I hope I can claim PIP but I'll check it all out. Can you claim PIP if you are still working or should i wait until I give up completely.

PIP can be claimed whether or not you are working. If you become unable to work because of your condition you can claim ESA.

You can claim PIP and work at the same time, but your doing so will be considered as part of the assessment and Decision as it attests to a level of capability that may be at odds with what you state your limitations are in the claim form.

Thank you Gordon. I won't claim until I give up work completley then so they don't get confused of my condition.
