Hi s,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

Once you have obtained your Med 3 "fit note" from your G.P. and sent it to The DWP, (Ideally keeping a copy) :

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

and have made your claim for ESA :

www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/overview

It should take around 10-14 days to process this and start payments into your nominated Bank Account.

Once the claim is processed, you should be paid The Assessment Rate of ESA, (currently £72.40/Week for a single over 25 year old) and any Income Related (IR) ESA top-ups that you may be entitled to, from the start date of your claim.

It may give you a better understanding of how ESA works if you read through our "Understanding Employment and Support Allowance" Guide, (2nd link down) as well as our other relevant ESA Guides on this page : ESA Claims Guides

Please reply to this topic if you have any further queries.
