Still on this theme, my daughter's newly acquired Statement of Fitness for Work states that she "is not fit for work" and that "this will be the case for 90 days". My question is why only for 90 days even though she has a life long genetic syndrome which is going to get worse and not better? Also, what happens after 90 days if still under assessment - will she need another Statement? Thank you in advance.

DWP procedures require the first two Fit Notes to be not more than 3 months, the rules apply to all claimants, those with a temporary condition that may not even last the 3 months and those with permanent or deteriorating conditions where there may be no expectation of them ever being fit enough to work.

You need to provide contiguous Fit Notes or your daughter's payments may be suspended, there should be no problem with your GP issuing a new Fit Note a week or so in advance of the current one finishing, with a start date for the day after the preceding one finishes.
