Hi Gordon
Just a quick question is there a different time limit review criteria for PIP claimants who are working as opposed to someone who is medically incapable of working?
My friend has just been awarded 10 years (and is still able to work) before she is to be reviewed again, and having been awarded the standard rate for both components.
I was told the most an award could be granted was for 3 years.
Please could I have your opinion.

To the best of my knowledge, as a former Welfare Rights Officer and a DLA Tribunal Member, there should no difference in the criteria paid to PIP claimants who are able to work part time or full-time as opposed to those who are unable to work.
PIP ( and DLA) are paid to those who have chronic illness and/or disability, whilst ESA is paid to those unable to work due to ill-health/chronic disability.

The length of a PIP award should be based on the claimants underlying conditions and the possibility of improvement, their working has the potential to influence the level of award, although this is not always the case, but should not have any effect on the length.
PIP awards can be made for a variety of periods starting from one year up to 10 years for a fixed award or in the longer term where there is no specific end date, in all cases the claimant can be re-assessed at any time prior to the end of award, should the DWP require it.
