Mandatory Assessment was created by Jill
The good news is that my son has been awarded the enhanced daily living component of PIP. However, he received nothing at all for mobility; even though he can't leave the house on his own, nor can he use public transport. We made this very clear at the assessment.

We're going to ask for the mandatory re-assessment, and I wondered if we can send supplementary evidence to go with it?

Also, should he eventually get awarded mobility, will that money be backdated to the point of the original application (28 weeks ago)?

Thanks.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that the award was not quite what you had hoped for.

Yes, you can/should send in additional evidence to back up your claim when you ask for the MR. You should be aware that the Decision Maker who looks at the claim has to option to lower the award too (you could appeal against this), you you should be as sure as possible in your own mind that the award is secure before you ask for MR.

If/when the mobility component is awarded, the money will be backdated to the start of your claim.

First of all congrats!

You can send in additional evidence but you should be aware that this will slow the process down. There are currently no time limits for a Mandatory Reconsideration. However sending in more evidence will obviously make it less likely that you will need to go to appeal. You should definitely put in writing that you want an MR even if you don't send additional evidence. Any additional monies will be backdated whether they're awarded at MR or appeal. You should also be aware that the award can be reduced, stay the same or be increased at MR or appeal. So there is a small risk involved with either MR or appeal. You will want to be certain, therefore, that your son has clear enhanced rate daily living entitlement and that you can evidence this.
