DLA Award Lengths was created by davidedi
Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if someone can help me please? Until recently the DWP website had a document on it which explained typical award lengths for DLA. For example, if you have depression and aged under 50 then you would probably be awarded DLA for 5 years. Or if you have bipolar and have had it for more than 5 years then you'll probably be awarded DLA for 10 years.

I'm keen to obtain a copy of this document in order to help friends with their claims.

Thanks in advance,
Daved.

Hi D,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

I do know of the guidance that you speak of.

A lot of the DWP Guidance has been archived, moved or removed, so I am not sure that it still exists.

If the friend's claims that you speak of are totally fresh claims, as of April 2013 said claims must be made for PIP and not DLA.

Before we go any further, can you confirm whether or not these claims are new/fresh claims.

Hi D,

These documents are still available Re : DLA & AA :

www.gov.uk/government/publications/medic...lt-cases-staff-guide

&

Decision Maker's Guide Chapter 61 - Attendance Allowance
and Disability Living Allowance

There is further information on our :

DLA Guides Page ,

and in our : DLA FAQ’s

If these are fresh claims, non of the above information is applicable.

Instead, you should review our :

PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page)

See also, our :

PIP Self Test

and our :

PIP Topic Thread in Spotlight Area

Hi D,

Just in case you are in Northern Ireland (NI), fresh claims for DLA are still allowed there, as the roll out of PIP for new claims has not yet been instigated in NI.

Thanks so much, bro58. The document on the www.gov.uk website is the one I was after, but it's in a slightly different format than I remember so I didn't recognise it.

Appreciate the fast response!

Daved.
