It is the type of ESA you are receiving that qualifies someone for free dental care, not whether you are on the Assessment of full rates of ESA.

A single adult entitled to ESA(CB) will not normally be entitled to ESA(IR) whilst receiving the Assessment rate as the two pay the same amount.

A couple, where one is receiving ESA at the Assessment rate will be entitled to an ESA(IR) top up as the couple rate exceeds the single person rate.

Payment of ESA(IR) will be subject to the claimants personal circumstances which may also be effected by any ESA Premium they are eligible for

- the Enhanced Disability Premium due to an award of DLA Higher Rate Care or PIP Enhanced Care
- the Severe Disability Premium because they receive at least DLA Medium Rate Care or PIP Standard Care and they live alone and nobody receives Carers Allowance for them
- The Carers Premium because of an underlying entitlement to Carers Allowance
