ESA and Carers Allowance was created by woodsie
Hi Guys!
Don’t know if you can help?
I would like to know if my wife claiming carers’ allowance will have an effect on my ESA.
We know that there might be an effect on CT/Benefit.
She claims no benefits in her own right.
I/We get ESA (cb), child benefit, child tax credits, DLA, wife’s self-employed income and a small private pension.
Before my transfer to ESA (cb) from Incapacity benefit in 2011 it stated on my annual award notice and in previous years I had additional money included in my benefit payments for my two children.
Because my claim started before 2003 and the introduction of tax credits I was told I was allowed to keep the addition for the children and - claim tax credits.
Does anyone know if that is correct as carers advice thought differently?
However on subsequent annual notifications of payments from DWP it just says how your payments are calculated;
Amount you need to live on,
Plus support or wrag group addition,
Plus transitional protection
The total payment due.
No mention of child additions.
My question is:
Would I still be getting money in my ESA for the children (or is that amount now included in the transitional amount and not counted as additional payment for the children anymore).
If the addition is still in payment. Would it then be removed if she claimed carers.
Thanks in advance.

I am going to start by recommending that you get face to face advice from a trained advisor, we cannot offer advice on some of the income that you have and you should a complete understanding of the financial implications before proceeding.
As you are currently receiving ESA(CB) your wife claiming Carers Allowance should not have any impact on your payments, whilst you continue to receive ESA(CB) the claim is in your name only and any income that your wife has is disregarded.
ESA has no "children's component", the Government guaranteed that whilst a claimants circumstances do not change, that their payments will not be less on ESA than they were on IB, the Transitional payment makes up the difference and is paid for no other purpose.
Carers Allowance is only paid in regard to someone having an appropriate DLA, AA or PIP Care award, so I cannot see any reason why it would have any effect on your TP payments, especially as I understand from your previous post

that it is your DLA that the CA is being claimed against.
