DLA toPIP no change for DLA but PIP may moe

I am currently in receipt of DLA middle rate care.

Although my circumstances have not changed for DLA, looking at the wording of the PIP descriptors and using the self assessment-test elsewhere on this site I would qualify for the higher rate for care and at least the lower rate of mobility

I can't afford to lose what I already get so what is the implications of applying for PIP, now bearing in mind the current delays mean that assessment for PIP may well occur when the DWP would be expected to call me to apply for PIP anyway.

Is it worth the risk of applying now or should I wait?

The first thing to check is whether you are in an active PIP area, if you are not then you cannot, at this time, make a claim for PIP.

Assuming you can make a claim, then you need to properly consider the risks.

Most people significantly over score themselves when they look at the PIP Descriptors, often by a factor of two or three times, so I would have another look at what you think you score and divide it by three to see whether you still qualify.

Once a PIP Decision is made, there is no return to DLA.

The Government's stated aim is to reduce the DLA budget by at least 20% through the introduction of PIP, this means that a large number of DLA claimants will see their awards reduced or removed, although there will be a small number who can reasonably expect that they will receive an increased award.

Ultimately the decision is yours, if you decide to go ahead, please make use of PIP Claim guide.
