ESA, more time? was created by JeanCannon
Hi
I have an ESA form to fill in (as mentioned in a previous post) and was supposed to have help from a welfare officer today, but due to a mix up this did not happen.
I was told that as I cannot get another appointment now for 3 weeks that I could ask for more time.
Does anyone know if this is possible? I am very doubtful.

I need to send it in by 11th April.

Thanks

Yes you can ask for more time but it is at their discretion. If they offer you more time please be sure to get this in writing. I have had clients who were offered more time over the phone only to have their benefits stop because they did not send the form in by the original deadline.

I totally agree with Puccalove's reply. The 4 week reply time is stipulated by law. The people who answer phones for DWP have no authority to extend this time - although it seems that they don't always know that!

Thank you for your replies. I think I will just have to get it done the best I can even if I end up having to appeal at the end of it.

If I should have to appeal what would happen to my DLA during that time please?

Thank you

It will depend on what happens with your ESA. If you are found Fit for Work then there is a small possibility that your DLA will be re-assessed, but the vast majority of adverse ESA Decision do not have any impact on the claimants DLA award if they have one.

Just to add - you can always send in extra information, if neccessary, after you have submitted your ESA50.
