ESA support group backpay? was created by lewis hc
:S Hi there. I've started to wonder about support group backpay, and if there isn't such a thing, then my question will be quickly answered!
But anyway I got into the support group on appeal last year after a year in wrag. I was pleasantly surprised to discover you get more money in the support group. More then half of it is going back to the authorities to pay the bedroom tax, so I'm not much better off, but such is life.
But should I have asked somebody, you guys perhaps, if there is backpay due to folk who have successfully appealed, like me? I'm not saying I will pursue it, even if I still can, because this sort of thing tends to make me ill. Plus I'm absolutely terrified of irking the DWP.
And I also would feel terrible to waste anybody's time, on this issue of mine. If there is an issue!
To be honest, I'm sort of hoping that there is no backpay, and then I can forget about it, and worry instead about other stuff! (PIP for a start).
Well, I'm good at the mo., got a bit of DLA for another year or so. Lot of folk have got nowt in this world, money or otherwise.
Thanks. Lewis

Hi Lewis,

I would normally expect you to have recieved the difference between WRAG and Support GRoup from the date WRAG started up to the date Support Group started being paid. I can't think of any circumstances in which this would not be paid - unless you were previously on IB and received a slightly higher rate of payment under the transitional arrangements (claimants migrating directly from IB to ESA should not recieve less on ESA than they were getting in IB).

Thanks for the reply. Now I've got to try to get someone to look into my issue for me. I've made a lot of phonecalls but not got anywhere. No-one has answered the phone yet, which must be a familiar experience to everyone in the country nowadays!
There's a CAB 14 miles away which I can't visit, but I've rung them several dozen times over the last couple of years (I've had a lot of problems with my 'social' housing association) no-one has ever answered their phone, they tell you to leave a message, but they don't ring you back.
My theory is that the universe is a giant wind-up..I had this idea as a joke, but I think I might be onto something!
Plus all of these calls cost money, and who can afford to hang on the phone all day? No-one. And I don't think anybody has the resources to help folk like us, the CAB is a charity isn't it.

Lewis

In addition to the CAB try an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

I am afraid our local CAB does not answer the phone either and the only way to access their service is via drop in. Perhaps this is common around the country. Then again I suppose my local CAB could be your local CAB, it's a small world after all!

i gave up trying to phone CAB and contacted them via their website and asked them to phone me which they do within a few days hope this may help. Go on the main CAB site then find your local office website and then the contact us section.
