I have applied for PIP and am told it is a tax-free benefit. Is this correct? Also, I pay a non-dependant weekly contribution [called a deduction] toward Council Tax after household gets assessed for CT benefit/support. If I get PIP, will the Council include PIP in my weekly income so that I will need to pay more, or is PIP ignored for CT benefit/support purposes? Or does it all depend on individual Council CT Support policy? I called the Council before writing this, and got the nebulous answer that they need to take all my circumstances into account -which to me translates that they didn't know or didn't know what I was talking about.
You are correct in thinking the PIP is not liable to tax.
PIP should be treated in the same way as DLA, so it might be worth asking the same again but with DLA instead of PIP.
Each Local Authority has set it's own policy in regard to Council Tax reductions, some are offering a full discount some a partial one and I am sure I read on another forum of someone complaining about their LA not offering any discount.
