DLA/PIP ADVICE PLEASE HELP was created by mum0f6
Hi

I have recently returned DLA renewal forms for both my son and I. I was in receipt of LRC indefinitely and HRM till March 2013. My son is in receipt of LRC till March. After only 2 weeks I discovered today during a phone conversation that my son has had his renewed for another 2 years and mine have both been renewed indefinitely.

My uncertainty is around PIP and the fact that the rate is so much more. I know of someone who has been awarded much more through PIP and they are certainly no worse than myself certainly on the basis of walking. I know under the dates they have gone off we will be invited to apply for PIP in 2015. I am at a loss as to how this is fair. My daughter has Autism and gets high rate care still gets considerably less.

I am unsure as to whether I should bite the bullet and apply for PIP certainly for myself as I just feel the whole situation is unfair. I know conditions for each person are different but the fact that 2 people get such different amounts ???

The rates for PIP are the same as the current DLA rates.

The standard rate equates to either the Middle Care Rate or the Lower Mobility rate as appropriate and the Enhanced rate corresponds to the Higher rate of both Care or Mobility.

I have been told by DWP officials in person that PIPs is a money saving exercise. Yes - some people may get more money, as with the transition from IB to ESA, but many more will get less. I cannot remember the figures of hand but remember being shocked by how many people on DLA were projected as not being eligible for PIPs. I have seen the qualifying criteria and they are a lot stricter and more complicated. There may be some winners and you may be one of them but there will be many more losers. You will want to make sure you have a good grip on the qualifying criteria before you make a decision. I cannot really give you an idea about what is actually happening as so few of my clients have had decisions back yet. That is another con against claiming, the massive delays. It is your decision but I would advise against claiming PIP before you have to.

Hi,

Importantly, there is no PIP award equivalent of LR Care DLA.

Therefore, recipients who only qualify for LR Care DLA may find that they do not qualify for Standard Rate Daily Living of PIP.

This is of course dependent on their individual care needs.
