Not having been "sanctioned"as yet I wait in trepidation.
Being sanctioned counts as an alteration in income-albeit negatively-so Im standing by to notify eg. Housing Benefit with details of the Sanctioning which I hope can be presented in the form of an officially received letter from the JC+ or DWP that is if you get one at all does anybody know?
Maybe they just tell you on the phone or OTC at the JC+instead?
I really a need a letter with a breakdown of the amounts in order to show Housing Benefit as I believe otherwise they can suspend payment mistaking Sanctions for Supsension of Claim.
Yes its a reduction of 60% in your money but you still get something.
There is an additional penalty of a total stoppage too for a short period of time maybe 1 week
during which all weekly ESA is withheld and not paid.
I would like to see much more on here about the micro detail of Sanctioning eg. copies of form letters of Sanctioning etc as its an increasingly common predicament.
A poster a while back remarked on this (Sanction Problems)though they were in more complicated circumstances.
I guess its fear of the unknown that is worrying.

You should receive a letter, that doesn't mean you will of course, you can always ask for one with the info you require. We are learning with you about the stricter sanctioning processes which is why we appreciate you keeping us informed.

Sanctioning a claimant requires a Decision to be made, all Decisions must be notified in writing to the claimant, as the claimants payments will be affected, there is also a requirement for them to be notified of the changes.

If it would put your mind at ease it may be worth contacting your housing benefits department and asking what should a HB claimant do in the event of a sanction of their ESA claim.
