IB to ESA WRAG was created by Joe
Hi, this is my first time posting and in need of some advice.

So here goes, I was getting IB from 1993 and after returning received forms to fill out for ESA 3 weeks ago along with medical history from my GP and 6 extra pages explaining everything after a few weeks later I have received a letter telling me that I am entitled to contribution-based and income-related Employment and Support Allowance without attending a medical. At the bottom of the page it says I have been placed in the work-related activity group. This is due to start on 9th January 2014 and says the amount will be paid until the 4th June 2014.
I take it this means I have to go to these interviews?
I can hardly walk due to osteoporosis, have severe anxiety, depression and panic attacks and have epileptic seizures every few days and after each episode I am drained for the rest of the day but if I am supposed to attend such interviews I know I will have too but this will be really hard for me. I am also a recovering alcoholic and have been sober for 6 years through having a stable routine and not having the pressure of being sent to work but after getting this letter I'm afraid that this is putting a strain on my mental health and have a fear that things could change very rapidly.
Any advise on what I should do? I'm trying to be positive but because of my depression I'm finding it really hard and want to know are these work related interviews as bad as I think or will they put pressure on me and push me into work? If this is the case and I feel pressured in an unfamiliar situation only one of 2 things will happen, it will trigger a seizure or I will become very aggressive and very capable of harming people around me. Also, during these interviews does the interviewer have power to change the status of your benefit say to support group?
At this stage I don't know what to do, whether to ask for a reconsideration and if unsuccessful apply for an appeal or just grit my teeth and put up with the interviews. My main priority is not lifting a drink at the minute but even if I get passed this stage and calm myself and become more relaxed am I going to be under pressure at each interview that I'm going to have to battle myself not to drink on each occasion. Sorry for being so dramatic but as this might sound trivial to a lot of people it is very dangerous for me as on any occasion I have drank alcohol I've ended up in hospital with pancreatitis which is a very real and life threatening. The thing that angers me the most that my partner and I spent weeks writing about all the things which affect me on a daily basis only to have the feeling that these people haven't even read it.

Thank you.

If you remain in the WRAG then you will be required to participate in Work Related Activity, this will include Work Focused Interviews, skills training and you may be forwarded to the Work Programme. You advisors must take into account any limitations that result from conditions in deciding what activities you should be asked to do.

Work Focussed Interviews

Work Programme

However, their is an assumption that you will be able to carry out some of these activities simply because you are in the WRAG and you will come under pressure to comply, also, where activities are mandated, you may have your benefit sanctioned if you do not participate.

ESA Sanctions

You can challenge the Decision if you believe that you meet one or more of the criteria for the Support Group.

Qualifying for the Support Group

You are likely to be subject to a Mandatory Reconsideration before you can appeal, you will continue to receive the WRAG rate while this is processed, we have an MR and APpeal guide in the Members area.
