The DWP have announced that all health assessments for PIP and the WCA will be automatically audio recorded from today.  This includes both face-to-face assessments and telephone assessments.

The government committed to recording all assessments in the Pathways to Work Green Paper last year, but did not give a firm date for doing so.

Currently claimants can request an audio recording, but the DWP say that only 3% do so.

Disability minister Stephen Timms said “Improving transparency and trust in the benefits system is one of this government’s key aims, which is why we’re making this important change.”

“Audio recording health assessments as standard will mean we are available to make improvements and increase assessment quality, resulting in a better experience for claimants.”

Claimants can still make their own audio recording of an assessment and can choose to opt-out of the DWP recording process if they wish.

I will still use my own tape recorder , still request their recording, and get my phone supplier to record also... Plus will get it transcibed too, its only way as yet to submit it in appeal

In my recent review I requested it be recorded. When HP phoned she said she did not have facility to record and I was not allowed to record it myself. I went from enhanced in both to zero points in everything, and award cancelled. However I did make a covert recording and sent in a transcript of it with my MR. My award was immediately reinstated to double enhanced for 5 years because it was easy to show where the HP had made multiple “mistakes”. There is no way I will be having any more assessments without making my own recording regardless of what they want to do on their end.

It won't help with all lies . Maintained good eye contact throughout, fir example. She stared at her screen and I stated at my boots.
How do you maintain eye contact with timezone staring at a screen anyway?

Make sure you record the assessment as well, just incase the assessor "loses" their recording

Will the recordings disappear like they seem to when you do request it though, that's the real question.

@Katiee Oh yes, they self destruct when the request comes through, like that Banksy painting shredding itself.

I can't believe the record request rate is only 3%. The audio has always been invaluable prove they were lying through their teeth.

The phrase "anything you say can and will be used against you" springs to mind.

@John In my experience, just existing and breathing will be used against you.   My PIP Athos assessment report was the most wicked thing I've ever came across in my life.   The assessor has really earned her bonus, that day.    However, recording would have easily exposed her.

@John I agree with that John, they are making a joke out of peoples disabilities. I myself have a life long injury which was sustained in a car accident when I was only 17 years old. I struggle with memory issues and if it comes down too me taking a job which involves actually thinking about and remembering to do certain things
