I'm completing an ADP renewal in Scotland and I'm struggling with the "Moving Around" activity. My Long Covid and POTS cause fatigue, post-exertional symptom worsening (PEM), dizziness, brain fog and fluctuating mobility. I don't have a fixed distance that I can reliably walk.On some occasions I can walk around a supermarket or walk considerably further than I could on a worse day. However, doing so may leave me significantly more fatigued and limited later that day or for several days afterwards.Because of this, I don't know how to answer questions about whether I can walk 20-50 metres, 50-200 metres or more than 200 metres. My ability varies, and the consequences of walking are often delayed. When assessing the Moving Around activity for ADP, should I focus on:the maximum distance I can sometimes achieve, the distance I can manage most of the time, the distance I can manage reliably and repeatedly without significant after-effects,or something else? How do people with fluctuating conditions such as Long Covid, ME/CFS or POTS accurately explain their mobility when there is no single distance that reflects their real-world ability

Hi M&E

Do not, under any circumstances, focus on the distance you can occasionally do, because there is a risk that the assessor will focus on that distance and say that you can walk 200 metres and don't need a mobility award.

I notice from your post that you talk about the impact after you have walked, but surely with your conditions, some of those symptoms will be present even before you take a step. And if they are then your walking is immediately impacted and you choose the shortest distance and explain why eg - fatigue. If you have fatigue, you suffer from exhaustion. If you have fatigue, your balance is affected. You have dizziness. Do you have breathing issues? The severity of different symptoms may vary from day to day, but I would ask how often you experience them. If you have a symptom on one day, it is assumed that it is there for the entire 24 hours.
So I would be emphasising what impacts your walking, what you experience before you start and how soon any of the different symptoms kick in. I wouldn't talk about shopping - they can always ask you at an assessment and you can truthfully say that it is something you do occasionally. (or regularly with help),
