Hi,
Is it normal to get a sudden urgent UC email telling you to log on to your account TODAY or your benefits will be stopped!
Even on LCWRA?
Turned out my panic was partly unnecessary because all they wanted was a simple short form an d a whole week to do it.
But it scared me to death because I didn't know what they wanted...
Just want to know is every one going through this is it normal?

Hi WD

Did you request that you didn't want any texts from the DWP? Usually they send a text as a prompt.

Yes, I was alarmed to find this sort of message - the threat of the DWP stopping payments unless I signed into my journal to accept a "commitment" of taking a phone call!! Timms said this wouldn't happen - but it has so shows how underhand the reforms are. As I'd voluntarily engaged with a "work coach" I didn't imagine a sanction threat. Dr sent me for another specialized CT scan that shows my health has deteriorated, I believe my health has been adversely impacted by the change over from ESA to UC - the strain since 2023 ( when my partner qualified for SP) has been overwhelming. Thanks to this site I've managed but I dread what's next from the DWP. I'm not far off SP :but I was born between 1960 - 1961. I dread the Spring statement, in case gov change the goalposts again & again.

Hi KimABT
Everyone (apart from Appointees ) has to accept a Claimant Commitment in the world of UC. So I hope you have managed to accept yours.
If you have LCW rather than LCWRA then you will have to communicate occasionally with a Work Coach.
UC Work Coaches are not allowed to be " ageist ". So they will sanction a 66 year old as readily as a 26 year old !

Thanks David! but I'm not 66yo yet! As an ex DWP clerical officer I'd advise avoiding Work Coaches as it's clear, despite Timms assurances last year, that those in the LCWRA group ( as I am) will be given harsh sanctions. Thing is I forget things easily due to lack of oxygen, all I know is when working as a DWP officer I refused to treat anyone inhumanely, tried to bring some compassion into my role.

Recent chest CT shows my condition has deteriorated so its' now severe and life limiting. Trust me to drop dead just before the SP is due! Thing is the strain of the last year with Labour DWP reforms has tipped me over the edge & indeed others in the same boat. These reforms are truly wicked, a carry on from what the Tories proposed so seems there's not much difference between the two parties now.

Glad of this site! plenty of times I've felt I can't go on but here I find others in the same predicament so don't feel so alone with it all.

Hi KimABT

UC claimants with LCWRA are not allocated a Work Coach so I expect your Journal messages will come from the UC Case Manager.
