Dear B & W

What can you d if you have been discharged from CMHT after 15 years and have a PIP review comming up? What evidence can one use if they have been discharged but their mental health conditios are severe and life long? I understand that historical evidence is useful, but will that be enough as suitable evidence? I know they are very very perticular about being under secondary health care for such conditiohns.
I really look forward to your response and help.
kind regards

Hi Spennywen

Many people are in a similar position. All you can do is argue that no one currently stays under the CMHT forever, or their lists would never go down. There is a severe shortage of services so being discharged when you have a lifelong condition tells them nothing. They will take notice of historical evidence. I helped someone a little while ago and she hadn't had any support for eight years despite being a danger to herself and others. They took the past evidence and she was still awarded PIP. Jusst be very clear on every question how your condition impacts you against each of the questions. You could also, if you want, keep a diary for two weeks to a month and submit that as part of the evidence. If you have a partner, friend and or relation who can confirm what they have observed, get them to write a short letter when the time arises.

I know everyone always worries about evidence, and I'm not trying to dismiss it, but you can't magic up what you don't have. The most important thing is your explanation against the PIP criteria and past evidence will still be viable.

I was in the same position just around a year ago, after being under CMHT/Consultant since the early 1990's (on and off) for severe Depression, severe OCD that was diagnosed as being connected to my diagnosed Aspergers, Anxiety, and borderline personality disorder. I was told by my Consultant Psychiatrist that they had tried many methods to improve my situation CBT, Psychology, different Meds etc.... over the years, none of which had any affect. They also said that they had gone as far as they could with getting my medication right and the meds I am on now are about as good as it gets for me. However, what I did was rung my consultants secretary or the CMHT team I was under and I asked them to provide me with a letter outlining the above, and they also stated that my conditions in their opinion were ongoing and not going to improve even in the long term given the amount of time I have been under CMHT and the Consultant. They provided me with said letter I have copied it and I have placed it with my existing evidence. They have also stated that I can be re-referred to CMHT at any time through my GP and that I have been returned to the care of my GP. Given my past history there is a very strong chance of that happening! BIS I believe is right it's more about, service shortages than you personally. The above came totally out of the blue, and my above conditions remain the same.
Best Wishes. Rob.
