PIP Reduced due to debt - with no notice / communication! was created by feelingdownandout
I am really sorry - but I am in desperate need of help. I was paying £50 a month towards debt (due to CTC overpayments when I was in an abusive relationship) this plan was agreed in April, and I budgeted it and was coping ok.
Today I receive a letter from Debt Management dated 20th November, telling me that they are increasing my debt deductions from £50 every 4 weeks to £186 every 4 weeks starting next week!
I have called the Debt Management Centre and told them that I cannot afford this and it will put me into financial hardship and I have been told that I will have to let the payment go from my PIP next week and then call them back and they will arrange a repayment!
I am terrified, I don't know what to do, I told the lady I spoke to that this is not acceptable that I have had no notice, and she told me that DWP are entitled to take up to a third of my benefit to pay back debt. I told her that I already had a plan in place - she wasn't aware... (didn't look...) and she said that all plans are only set up for a period of time - I told her that I was not aware of that and that I am a disabled person and this is just not on, that I will spiral and living alone won't put me in a good place at all.
can anyone please offer any advice? she told me that it is likely that it is unlikely that the revised deduction back to £50 might not be processed in time - I asked her how long it takes and she said - maybe a week, maybe longer!!!
help... please

Hi feelingdownandout
You need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Specialist; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies in your area advicelocal.uk
Depending on your circumstances you may be able to get the debts written off with a Debt Relief Order: nationaldebtline.org/get-information/sum...bt-relief-orders-ew/ seek help from your local advice agency.
