Hi Gary,

I got a letter today saying that my CB ESA is going to change to new style ESA.

I thought I would be able to keep the CB ESA and claim IR ESA too. Is that not correct??

Hi tronaldodumpo

No that is not correct, legacy ESA is being phased out.

NS ESA is the same as CB ESA, they are both contribution based.

Under the legacy benefits, depending on your circumstances claimants were able to top up their CB ESA with IR ESA if they were eligible to claim SDP and EDP.

Claimants on NS ESA may also be able to claim UC depending on their circumstances.

Hi,

I've tried to reply a few times but it doesn't seem to post.

Can you help me to understand my UC payment please? My savings today are £14,021.87 (were approx £15,900 at time I started claim on 15 January)

My entitlement has been calculated as follows:

Standard allowance
£400.14
Limited capability for work and work-related activity
£423.27
Then it says “what we take off” which is
As this is an average of other benefits that you're continuing to claim
Employment and Support Allowance ‑ £609.05
Money, savings and investments ‑ £174.00
Total deductions minus ‑ £783.05
Your total payment for this month is: £40.36
Is this accurate? Why didn’t I get any housing component? Also is there a way for my social worker to communicate with the DWP about this on my behalf?

The figures and calculations you give are all correct.
The missing figure is your UC Housing Costs. How much is your rent? Is your landlord a Housing Association/Social Landlord.? Did they pay you Housing costs or Legacy Housing Benefit before? Was there a time that your total savings were over £16000 and for how long?

Hi,

My rent is £830 per month to a private landlord.

I queried in UC journal and they asked for proof of address, which I had already given them in several documents.

I didn't get any housing benefit prior as savings were too high. I've been under £16,000 in savings since I made the claim for UC last month.

Hi tronaldodumpo

One of the good things about UC compared to ESA is that you can send queries via your UC Journal. Have you tried asking questions about your Housing Costs ?
