PIP claim and question about holidays in last 3 years

My partner has a terminal illness and has just been referred to hospice. He has is on contribution based ESA.

Hospice has advised he can apply for PIP at the higher rate as he has a near term end of life diagnosis.

The PIP claim asks about holidays abroad in the last 3 years, of more than 4 weeks a year. We have been abroad for just over a month in the last 3 years.

Will this affect our claim?

What would happen if we leave the question blank or say N/A.

Hi WimbledonP

I answered this in your other post, but I didn't realise he was actually in Hospice Care. They should help you fill out the form. Just be truthful about the holidays and don't worry about it. No one will care. You have other things to worry about.

Hello

Thank you for this.

He is not in a hospice, just referred for home based palliative support, as there is no more treatment and life expectancy is now 12 months.

We did not tell DWP we were going away on our holidays, despite being on contribution based ESA. After the pandemic we just thought we'd make the most of our time.

We've been asked to check the DWP still has an SR1 firm for him. It was completed in 2018, he's beaten expectations to date. Do you think DWP will say we need to get a new one? Hospice said they could do that if needed.

Thanks so much

Hi WimbledonP

They may be looking to see if you went on holiday for a period of more than four weeks at any one time.

'The claimant should notify us if they are planning to go abroad for 4 weeks or more'

The newly updated PIP guide says: 'We will need to know the date the claimant is leaving the country, how long they are planning to be out of the country, which country they are going to and why they are going abroad.'

It says leaving the country or planning to do so for a period of more than 4 weeks – even if this is a holiday – may affect a person's entitlement to PIP.
