ESA to UC migration was created by Seels
Just wanted to let people know that sometimes things do go smoothly and despite anxiety on our part we got a fairly easy transition for my son.
He received a letter requesting him to start his migration just before Christmas. Yep,great timing!!
Anyway,we rang the Citizens Advice Bureau for help but they were too busy. We decided to go ahead online anyway as I'd copied the legal and disability rights information down from this website.
Because he had no ID with photo he was told he'd need a phonecall.
Today he got that call. I'd written online he has Autism and Bipolar suffering extreme anxiety. I also said he was in the ESA Support group and needed to transition straight to the equivalent on UC.
The man who rung was actually calm, pleasant, kind and only asked him 3 questions to identify him. When my son panicked he reassured him and told him he wouldn't need to engage anymore, that his transition is straightforward and will only hear from them if any major change happens like a change of address etc.
I thought it'd be good for people to see that sometimes it does go ok.
I also had a PIP review last year. Light touch. I actually put in with my light touch form everything I had for the original pip form itself.
I was taking no chances. I also requested a paper based assessment if it was needed based on any face to face would cause psychological trauma. I had no assessment and received high rate in the equivalent of both mobility and care. It runs until 2029.
I'm not saying it's been easy or without stress. Far from it. It's made me ill with worry doing both. But it has worked out ok both times.
I just wanted you to know that it isn't always bad.

Hi Seels
Thanks for sharing your valuable feedback. As others have mentioned it pays to treat a review even a light touch as seriously as a full new claim and give comprehensive answers and thorough supporting evidence. It led to your request for a paper based assessment being granted as well. All the best for the future.
