Incorrect descriptor

Incorrect descriptor was created by Cadno
My recent PIP renewal resulted in the same award of enhanced for both components. I have looked over my award decision and report again I can see I have also been awarded 10 points this time for not being able to undertake any journey 11E I believe in addition to the 12 points for help getting around.
I need support to complete both familiar and unfamiliar journeys and experience extreme anxiety, distress, panic attacks and flashbacks and often need to return home. I found the phone assessment completely overwhelming, I’ve mentioned in a previous thread it took almost 4 hours to complete because of this even with my support worker offering support. I experienced the same distress for an ESA phone assessment and the Helath professional has recommended paper based reviews in the future due to this.
I’m assuming the higher descriptor was selected as my mental health conditions cause overwhelming physiological distress even with support. I’m worried about this higher descriptor chosen and I won’t be able to leave the house incase it’s seen negatively by DWP especially with their proposed tighter guidelines.
Can I challenge this descriptor by the MR process or should I leave things stand in anyone’s experience. I understand they look at the full award. As it stands I still would keep the enhanced mobility rate based on help getting around alone at 12 points.
I know it is probably very unusual to challenge receiving too many points for a descriptor as it’s normally the other way around. Thanks

Hi Cadno

You have to do what you think is right here - we can't say. Most people would just be glad that they had enhanced for both parts and wouldn't want to rock the boat. If you challenge it, you potentially put your award at risk if they look at it again and make a different decision. Only you can decide on that one. I have known members to leave it be and others who were determined to try and correct what they considered a wrong.

Does the majority of days still apply to this descriptor as it implies never being able to go out/ complete a journey which is unrealistic for anyone. Thanks

Hi Cadno

Yes, the majority of the time does apply, but contrary to what you might think some claimants are never able to go out/complete a journey.

Thanks for clarifying. Of course, I meant for someone who has a disability illness or condition where they are able to on some occasions.
