I think it is completely random how long it takes. I know that some areas are a lot quicker than others.
If you have a life long disability which isn't likely to get better or if you have a condition where it is easy to define the disabilities you have, then there is no need for DWP to have a face to face assessment, so these sorts of cases could be dealt with a lot quicker.
