Moving to income-related ESA was created by Gateway
Hello,
Does anyone know what happens if someone sends off their application to move to income-related ESA (after the 365 days in receipt of contributions-based ESA are finished) late and once ESA payments have stopped, wishing to backdate the income-related payments to the day after the contributions-based payments ended?
Also, does anyone know what notifications should be received by a claimant informing them that ESA payments will be stopped after 365 days unless a successful application for income-related ESA is made?
Many thanks.

Hi Gateway,
I believe that DWP are supposed to write to the claimant 6-8 weeks before the contributary benefit will be exhausted. I do know that they are not always doing this and there doesn't seem to be any come-back.
I don't know whether the income-related will be backdated, maybe one of the more exoerienced mod's will be able to comment.

Providing you are eligible for ESA(IR) then it should be paid from when your ESA(CB) ceased.
