Hi rm,

CB ESA is paid if you have enough NI Contribution/Credit history to receive it, and is non means tested.

With respect to people being transferred from other benefits, see the following :

What will I be transferred to?

Claimants in receipt of CB ESA only, who are not placed into The SG, will only receive it for 365 days :

12 Month Limit for ESA(CB)

IR ESA is means tested with respect to your household income, capital, assets and savings.

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If any part of your ESA is IR ESA (even a penny) then there is no 365 day entitlement to payment rule, no matter which group you are in.

Being in receipt of IR ESA also passports you to other things, such as free prescriptions, dental care, HB and CTB support.

so if the worst came to the worst and l lost my esa contribution based what would happen next i am a single person with no savings got transferred from ib to wrag in 2011 but appealed this so had a ninth month wait and won was placed in support group for 18 months in june 2012 now have sent off the esa form

Hi rm,

If you are single with no other form of household income, and do not have more than the limit allowed in capital, assets and savings, then if your CB ESA ceased due to the 365 day rule at some time in the future, it seems from your post that you would be entitled to IR ESA.

You would need to request, fill in and return an ESA 3 Form from/to the DWP, to be financially assessed for entitlement to IR ESA.
